Comments

Kirki lets you leave comments directly on the canvas, enabling real-time feedback and smoother collaboration between designers, developers, clients, and teams, all without ever leaving the editor.

Whether you’re reviewing a page, requesting changes, or explaining a design choice, Kirki’s comment system keeps conversations contextual and actionable.

How In-Canvas Comments Work

The Comment feature allows users to:

  • Leave comments anywhere on your layout.
  • Tag collaborators with @mentions
  • Keep track of open, unread, and resolved comments
  • Centralize all feedback into a single, organized panel
  • Think of it as collaborative feedback built right into your design workflow.

How to Add a Comment

  1. Click the speech bubble icon on the Island to enable comment mode.
  1. Click anywhere on the page (place comments next to the relevant area).
  1. A floating comment box will appear where you clicked.
  1. Type your feedback.
  1. Optionally, @mention a teammate.
  1. Click the Upward Arrow icon to submit the comment.

💡 Note: Comment markers are shown as floating pins on the canvas so collaborators know where the comment is anchored.

How to Tag A Specific Team Member

You can @mention collaborators inside a comment to direct feedback to them. All users with appropriate permissions can view, reply to, and resolve comments.

How to Access The Comments Panel

You can access the Comments Panel the same way you enable Comments mode, i.e., by simply clicking the speech bubble icon on the Island.

From the Comments Panel, you can:

  • See all comments that are on the canvas gathered in one view
  • Click on a comment to expand its thread on the canvas
  • Search through the comments
  • Filter by: All, Unread, or Resolved
  • Resolve and unresolve comments
  • Mark all as read
  • Mark all as resolved

💡 Note: Comments are tied to individual pages, so feedback stays focused and organized.

Manage Comments

Once a comment thread exists on the canvas, you can reply to it, resolve it, mark it as unread, or delete it.

How to Reply to a Comment

  1. Click a comment pin on the canvas to open the thread.
  1. Type your reply in the empty field below the original comment.
  1. Click the arrow button to send.

Your reply appears in the thread below the original comment.

How to Mark a Comment as Resolved

  1. Click a comment pin on the canvas to open the thread.
  1. Click the check icon in the top bar of the Comment popup.

The comment moves to the Resolved tab in the Comments panel.

How to Mark a Comment as Unread

  1. Click a comment pin on the canvas to open the thread.
  1. Click the ellipsis (…) icon in the top bar of the Comment popup.
  1. Select Mark as Unread.

How to Delete a Comment Thread

  1. Click a comment pin on the canvas to open the thread.
  1. Click the ellipsis (…) icon in the top bar of the Comment popup.
  1. Select Delete thread.

This removes the comment and all its replies from the page.

Best Practices

  • Use clear and actionable language when leaving feedback, e.g., “Let’s increase the padding on this section by 20px for better spacing”.
  • Group comments by section or component to keep discussions organized.
  • Resolve comments once completed to maintain a clean workspace.
  • Use @mentions for accountability and faster collaboration.
  • Comment on staging versions during page revisions.
