Kirki’s Real-Time Collaboration allows multiple users to edit, design, and review a page simultaneously on the same canvas.
It provides:
- Live multi-user editing with instant sync
- Color-coded highlights to identify collaborators
- In-canvas comments
- Publish history
- Role-based access
This feature transforms team workflows by eliminating back-and-forth logins and manual coordination.
What Do I Need to Collaborate in Kirki
To collaborate in Kirki, each team member needs either an Administrator or Editor user role.
By default, new WordPress users get the Subscriber role, which has no Kirki editor access. Assign Administrator or Editor to anyone who needs to collaborate:
- From your WordPress dashboard, go to Users.
- Click the checkbox next to the team member you want to give access to.
- Click the Change role to… dropdown and select Administrator or Editor.
- Click Change to update.

How do I access Real-Time Collaboration?
- From the WordPress Admin Backend, open the Kirki Dashboard.
- Under Pages, select the page you want to edit, or click New Page to create one.
This opens the page in the Kirki editor, where you’ll see other collaborators online represented by avatars in the top-right corner of the canvas.
How Does Real-Time Collaboration Work?
All users with admin or edit permissions can build and design together in real time.
- Every change syncs instantly across all users’ screens.
- Active collaborators are shown by their avatar in the top-right corner, with color-coded highlights on the elements they’re editing.
- By default, Kirki syncs collaboration activity using EventStream, which runs directly from your site’s server with no setup needed. For an even smoother experience, you can switch to Pusher to sync cursor activity in real time, so every collaborator sees exactly where teammates are working on the canvas. How Do I Use In-Canvas Comments?
Kirki supports contextual commenting directly on the canvas. To add or view comments on the canvas, click the speech bubble icon in the Island, i.e., the toolbar at the bottom of the editor.
This also opens the Comments panel on the right side of the editor, where all feedback is collected in one place.

How Do I Use Publish History?
All published versions are automatically saved in real time. To view a page’s version history:
- Open the page in the Kirki editor.
- Click the clock icon at the top of the editor.
This opens the Publish History panel, where you can view previous versions, restore an earlier one, or delete versions you no longer need.
